1,100 prestressed spun concrete C pylons
for railway line in Stuttgart

The Stuttgart 21 project is a transport and urban development project for the reorganization of the Stuttgart railway junction, which was first presented to the public in 1994. In this project, eleven new, mostly underground lines and four new passenger transport stations are being built.

The clever C-mast system

New rail technologies also require innovative solutions for electrification. This applies to material, technology and cost-effectiveness. The new C-mast system for long-distance traffic was developed in close cooperation between Deutsche Bahn AG, the system providers and FUCHS Europoles. The Federal Railway Authority (EBA) has approved the system.

For the new high-speed line from Stuttgart to Ulm, the client Deutsche Bahn AG opted for high-speed pylons from FUCHS Europoles. For this purpose, we have supplied more than 1,100 prestressed spun concrete pylons over the past four years. The new railway line will significantly shorten travel times and relieve the parallel Fils Valley Railway. Due to the numerous tight bends, only a driving speed of 70 km/h is possible on this road. The new high-speed line is suitable for speeds of up to 250 km/h.

Inspiring technology

For the operators, this results in significant cost advantages compared to the original construction method in planning, procurement as well as in foundation and assembly technology. The innovative centrifugal production process gives the slim catenary pylons particularly high strengths around C80/95. High rigidity, low deformations and the avoidance of resonance speak for the use on the new railway line. During assembly, the shock- and scratch-resistant surface convinces. The low maintenance requirements and a service life of over 150 years leave a positive ecological footprint and result in extremely low life cycle costs. In addition, the masts for long-distance transport meet all requirements in terms of bird protection, usability and standards. Even the use under very harsh climatic conditions, poorly load-bearing soils or extreme environmental conditions is possible without any problems.
